How to Choose an MBA College: A Practical Checklist
The questions that actually separate MBA programmes — specialisations, format, approvals and fit — and how to check each one yourself.
By Grave Minds Editorial Team · Published · 5 min read

Two MBA programmes with similar names can lead to very different careers. Before you compare brand names, compare the things that will shape your two years and what comes after.
The checklist
1. What do you want the MBA to do for you?
A switch of function, a move into a particular industry, or a step up in your current track? Your answer decides which specialisations and which schools are relevant.
2. Specialisations and electives
Look at the actual course list, not just the specialisation names. Check how many electives are offered and when you choose them.
3. Degree type and approvals
An MBA is awarded by a university; a PGDM is awarded by an autonomous institute. Check the approvals and accreditations the institution lists on its official site.
4. Placement reports
If placements matter to you, read the institution’s own placement report for the latest batch — and check whether it has been independently audited.
5. Cost and return
Use the official fee document for your intake year and include living costs. Then weigh it honestly against your goals.
6. Location and network
Proximity to the industry you want can shape internships and projects.
Turning the checklist into a shortlist
Once you know which schools fit, map them to entrance tests — see Private MBA Colleges in India. If you would like a second opinion, talk to a Grave Minds counsellor.
